CV: John Teixeira

John has been involved in the residential construction industry since 1978 and became a licensed R2000 builder in 1991. He is the recipient of five CMHC Job Site Innovator Awards, including CMHC’s 1992 Regional Innovator of the Year. In 1995, he received the CMHC Ontario Healthy Housing Award and in 2000, at the national level, CMHC officially designated John as a “Healthy Housing Builder”. In 2001, he was officially recognized as an EnviroHome Builder by the Canadian Homebuilders Association.

John is an Ontario licensed Sewage System Designer/Installer. He is also trained in the installation of the Ecoflo Biofiltration Treatment Units. John is a certified Journeyman Carpenter with a comprehensive understanding of residential construction. He has been a pioneer in the Insulated Concrete Homes industry. Since 1994, he has contributed to the development, evolution and integration of three major brands of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF), the Legalett Geo-Slab and complimentary intermediate floor systems with in-floor radiant heat.

Between 1996 and 2004, John won five energy efficiency and technical excellence awards from the R2000 program and the Portland Cement Association. In 2009, he won 2nd runner up in the unlimited residential category of the prestigious World of Concrete ICF Awards. He has always been on the leading edge of innovative technology, introducing in-floor heating systems, accessible slab on grade construction, and the application of renewable energy and sustainable building practices to residential projects. John is an international trainer for Legalett Radiant Shallow Frost Protected Foundations (Geo-Slab) and ICF construction and has his HRAI Certificate in Residential Mechanical Ventilation. He is also a certified hydronic in-floor heating designer and installer.

Adopting ICFs and, in particular, the Legalett FPSF (Geo-Slab) was a pivotal decision in his career. His dedication to the “Legalett Way” is demonstrated by the following Legalett Awards since their inception in 2007: “Trainer of the Year” for 2007, 2008 & 2009, “Most Sq. Ft. Suspended Slab” for 2007 & 2009, “Salesman of the Year” for 2008, as well as 5 awards for “Legalett Firsts” in specific projects including: in 2007 – (1) Pier Supported Insul-Deck project; (2) Tippy Canoe Dog Kennel project with innovative floor drainage; (3) The Chadha Residence project the most complex residential with 104 corners and various angles and radii; In 2008, (4) the Carefor Hospice project a 13,000 sq. ft. multi unit terminal care facility; and in 2009, (5) the Simon Viceroy project, being the first Legalett off Grid Home in North America.

As past president of the Lanark Leeds Home Builders Association, John has served on several related committees, including the technical committees of: The Lanark Leeds Home Builders Association, The Ontario Home Builders Association, The Canadian Manufactured Housing Association, The Ontario New Home Warranty Program, the Canadian Window and Door Certification Council and more recently on the CMHC Net Zero Selection Committee. He has also served on the Planning Advisory Committee for the Municipality of Rideau Lakes.

In the last fifteen years, John has been quoted, or written about in several publications including Homes and Cottages Magazine, The Ottawa Citizen, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, The Brockville Recorder and Times, The Review Mirror, as well as other local construction related publications around his home base of Westport, Ont.

In addition, John co-hosted the Saturday morning call-in show, “All About the House” on 101.1 FM and currently appears as a regular expert guest on “All about the House” on Lake 88.1 FM out of Perth.

Currently he continues to operate his custom home-building business Teixeira Construction Inc. In addition, he is a Legalett Service Representative for Ontario and represents  and sells Fox Blocks in Ontario.
